Ministry of Defence Recognised as Top Performer at 2025 FiRe Awards
The accolade highlights the MoD’s strong adherence to financial reporting standards, transparency measures and governance principles

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has been honoured as one of Kenya’s leading public institutions after clinching four major national awards for excellence in financial reporting, accountability and public service management
During the 2025 Financial Reporting (FiRe) Awards, the Ministry was declared the Overall Winner in the Public Sector Category and ranked the top performer among all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs)
The accolade highlights the MoD’s strong adherence to financial reporting standards, transparency measures and governance principles

In addition to the FiRe Awards, the Ministry received two special recognitions from the Office of the Head of Public Service: the Unmodified Audit Opinion Award and a citation for Leadership in Driving the Public Service Transformation Agenda
The honours were officially presented to Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya at a ceremony held at Defence Headquarters. Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru, together with senior officials and departmental heads, led the presentation

CS Tuya welcomed the recognition, noting that it affirmed the Ministry’s sustained efforts to uphold accountability and maintain high operational standards
PS Mariru credited the achievement to coordinated teamwork across all departments and emphasised the need to continue strengthening governance structures
The awards add to the Ministry’s growing record of compliance and institutional excellence within Kenya’s public sector
