The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has opened an investigation into the alleged misuse of public funds after Ksh 5 million was reportedly spent on a lavish housewarming party at the official residence of the Vihiga County Speaker
In a letter dated February 12, 2026, addressed to the Clerk of the Vihiga County Assembly, the anti-graft agency demanded the urgent submission of key documents to support its probe

The requested materials include original or certified copies of departmental requisitions, approved budget records for the financial year 2023/2024, procurement paperwork, payment records, and any other relevant information tied to the event
“Please endeavour to provide the documents by 13th February 2026,” wrote EACC Regional Manager for Central Nyanza Abraham Kemboi, adding that officers Brian Shigoli and Kevin Lagat or other authorised EACC personnel will be available to receive the submissions

The latest probe intensifies scrutiny over county spending practices, which have faced criticism in recent weeks amid broader concerns about accountability and financial management in devolved units
