CS Ruku Accuses Gachagua of Orchestrating Church Chaos to Gain Public Sympathy

The Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes, Geoffrey Ruku, has accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of deliberately sponsoring violence at public gatherings in a bid to portray himself as a victim and whip up public sympathy

Ruku was responding to chaotic scenes witnessed on Sunday during a church service in Nyeri attended by Gachagua, where disorder broke out, prompting police to lob teargas inside the church and forcing congregants to flee

According to the CS, the incident was not accidental. He alleged that Gachagua routinely moves with armed goons who deliberately disrupt meetings and church services he attends to incite public anger against the government while presenting himself as a persecuted figure

“This is the same pattern we witnessed during the Mbeere North by-election campaigns, where his goons attacked an innocent youth and broke his leg,” Ruku said. “The youth, identified as Fredrick, sustained the injury during a church service at Karangare that the former Deputy President was attending with his goons”

Ruku warned Kenyans against falling for what he termed “well-organized schemes” aimed at manufacturing victimhood, spreading hatred and misleading the public on the true state of affairs within government. He stressed that the government would not tolerate acts of lawlessness disguised as political persecution, adding that places of worship should never be turned into stages for political drama

He further noted that the Nyeri incident mirrors what he described as a consistent pattern of violence linked to Gachagua’s political camp, insisting that intimidation and chaos have no place in Kenya’s democratic space. Ruku urged leaders to stop using youths to advance personal political interests through fear and violence

Turning to regional politics, the CS maintained that the Mt Kenya region remains firmly within government and dismissed claims that it could shift its political allegiance. He declared Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki the undisputed Mt Kenya kingpin, citing his continued leadership from within government

Ruku called on residents of Mt Kenya Central and Mt Kenya West to remain loyal to the government, noting that with Kindiki at the centre of power, the region stands to benefit from development projects. He cautioned that attempts to lure the region into opposing the government would derail development and deny residents essential services

He also accused Gachagua of political arrogance, urging him to respect the Deputy President and acknowledge the long-standing unity among Mt Kenya East, Central and West. Ruku emphasized that Mt Kenya East has consistently stood with the wider region and deserves recognition in national leadership

Addressing the broader Mt Kenya debate, Ruku said Mt Kenya East played a critical role in the struggle for independence and should not be sidelined. He called for unity and mutual respect across the region, urging leaders from Mt Kenya West to support the East, especially now that the Deputy President hails from the area

Ruku reiterated that the government remains on course in delivering its mandate, adding that political propaganda and hostility would not derail its development agenda

Chuka Igambang’ombe MP Patrick Munene echoed Ruku’s sentiments, describing the Nyeri church incident as a “well-scripted drama” and dismissing claims that police targeted Gachagua. However, Munene condemned the use of teargas inside a church, terming it disrespectful to a place of worship

Tigania East MP Mpuri Apuri also condemned the incident, saying Kenyans should not be subjected to what he termed “politics of conmanship” driven by selfish interests
