21-Year-Old Suspect Found Dead in Kisumu Police Cell

According to a police report, officers on duty discovered his absence during the 6 a.m. roll call. Upon searching, they found his body in the cell’s toilet area

A 21-year-old suspect, identified as Kelvin Oduor alias Kevo, has died in a suspected suicide while in custody at the Kisumu Central Police Station

Oduor, who had been arrested on Monday for a robbery with violence offence, reportedly hanged himself in the bathroom of the station’s holding cell using a string resembling a belt

He had been in custody pending a 14-day remand period awaiting a court date. DCI officers processed the scene, and his body was moved to the Kisumu County Hospital mortuary

Police say Oduor had earlier engaged officers in a shootout along Otieno Oyoo Street while armed with an AK-47 rifle before being subdued and arrested
