Kapsabet: One Dead as 11 Students Fall into Septic Tank While Rushing to See President Ruto
One student has died and ten others were injured at AIC Kapsabet School for the Deaf after falling into a septic tank within the school compound on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred when students rushed to catch a glimpse of William Ruto, whose motorcade was passing near the school. In their excitement, the learners stood on top of an old septic tank measuring about 20 feet long.
The structure could not support the weight of the students and collapsed, causing eleven learners to fall into the tank.
The incident was confirmed by Angeline Kirui, the Nandi County CEC, who was among the first responders at the scene.
Rescue teams and county disaster officers quickly arrived and managed to pull the injured students from the tank. The victims were rushed to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital for treatment.
After receiving reports of the accident, President Ruto stopped at the school and expressed his regret over the tragedy.
He also donated KSh 5 million to support infrastructure development at the affected school.
After the brief visit, the Head of State proceeded with his journey to Kapsabet Girls High School.
