Bomet Man Jailed 40 Years for Burning Wife to Death

The High Court in Bomet has sentenced Robert Kipkorir Tonui to 40 years in prison for the murder of his wife, Emmy Chepkoech Mitei, in 2020
According to court findings, Tonui locked Chepkoech inside their house at Seanin village on October 3, 2020, doused the home in petrol, and set it ablaze

Chepkoech was rescued with severe burns covering 90% of her body and rushed to hospital, where she died four days later
In its judgment, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) noted that the prosecution had proven the murder charge beyond reasonable doubt

The court said the 40-year sentence reflects the gravity of gender-based violence and serves as a warning to potential offenders
