Ruku Dismisses ODM Bid for Deputy President Seat, Affirms Support for Kindiki
Speaking on Sunday in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, Ruku said the Deputy President’s position “belongs to Kindiki” until 2032, when he suggested Kindiki would be well-positioned to run for the presidency
Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Geoffrey Ruku has declared that Deputy President Kithure Kindiki will retain his position through the 2027 General Election, dismissing attempts by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to claim the seat
Speaking on Sunday in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, Ruku said the Deputy President’s position “belongs to Kindiki” until 2032, when he suggested Kindiki would be well-positioned to run for the presidency
His remarks follow statements by ODM leader Oburu Oginga indicating that the party intends to vie for the Deputy President’s seat in the 2027 elections. Oginga had earlier stated that ODM was not interested in the position and supported Kindiki, but later revised his position

Ruku also took issue with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of fueling division and misrepresenting the government’s record on regional inclusion
He questioned claims that individuals from the Mt. Kenya region had been sidelined in government appointments, pointing to Kindiki’s position as Deputy President as evidence of the region’s representation at the highest level
Accompanied by Mwea MP Mary Maingi, Ruku said leaders from Mt. Kenya would intensify efforts to rally support for President William Ruto and Kindiki ahead of the 2027 polls
