Abyan Consulting Limited, the developer of the 16-storey building that collapsed in Nairobi’s South C estate, has dismissed claims that the project lacked requisite approvals or had been flagged by authorities
In a statement issued on Monday, the company said the development complied with all regulatory requirements and received approvals from both county and national agencies before construction began
The firm was responding to allegations circulating on social media and in sections of the mainstream media suggesting the project was non-compliant with planning and safety regulations

Abyan Consulting termed the claims inaccurate and based on “doctored documents,” saying they had misled the public.
According to the developer, approvals were granted by Nairobi City County, the National Construction Authority (NCA), the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), and other relevant agencies
The company said it obtained physical and land use planning approval from Nairobi City County on December 19, 2023, following an application submitted in October 2023 for a mixed-use residential development on L.R. No. 209/5909/10 in South C
The firm added that approval for three additional floors was issued on February 13, 2025, after a separate application lodged on January 31, 2025

It further stated that the project was registered with the NCA, which issued a certificate of compliance on November 8, 2023, while NEMA granted an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) licence on February 16, 2024
“All other relevant approvals were sought and granted by their corresponding agencies,” the company said
Abyan Consulting also conveyed condolences to families affected by the incident and thanked multi-agency rescue teams, first responders, medical personnel, volunteers, and members of the public who participated in rescue and recovery efforts
Authorities have launched investigations into the cause of the collapse, with an official report yet to be released
