Leaders allied to the United Opposition coalition are today heading to Kitui Central for the second leg of their two-day political tour of Kitui County, in what is shaping up to be an early but aggressive push to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The tour, scheduled for April 22–23, has been framed as a grassroots mobilisation drive aimed at strengthening the coalition’s presence at the local level while popularising its agenda among wananchi.

Today’s programme will see the delegation criss-cross key constituencies including Kitui Central, Kitui East, Kitui Rural and Kitui South, where they are expected to hold public engagements and meet local leaders.

The first day of the tour saw the opposition team traverse Kitui West, Mwingi West and Mwingi Central, drawing sizeable crowds and using the platform to emphasise unity among opposition parties.

The leaders also used the stops to criticise the current administration and position themselves as a viable alternative ahead of the next electoral cycle.Image

Among those spearheading the tour are Rigathi Gachagua, leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), Kalonzo Musyoka of the Wiper Party, Martha Karua of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), and Eugene Wamalwa of DAP-K.

The tour is also expected to be bolstered by the presence of other prominent political figures including Fred Matiang’i, the Jubilee deputy party leader, Justin Muturi of the Democratic Party, and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.

Their participation underscores the growing efforts by opposition leaders to close ranks and present a united front.
