Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged the Mount Kenya region to remain politically united, dismissing debate over President William Ruto’s potential running mate in 2027 as a distraction from the opposition’s main goal
Speaking Sunday after a church service at PCEA Zimmerman, Gachagua led rallies in Roysambu, Githurai 45 and Githurai 44 in Nairobi, where he said the “united opposition” was focused on ensuring President Ruto serves only one term
Gachagua, who now leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), said conversations about who might deputise the President in the next General Election were “inconsequential,” arguing that the opposition was preparing a broader strategy to unseat the incumbent
The former deputy president also revisited last month’s attack at ACK Witima Church in Othaya Constituency, questioning the pace of investigations

He criticised the lack of arrests despite assurances from Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Inspector General Douglas Kanja that action would be taken
Gachagua asked why those responsible for the alleged attack on worshippers had not yet been brought to justice
In his address, Gachagua warned that divisions within the Mount Kenya voting bloc could weaken its political influence ahead of the 2027 polls. He said he had consulted with allies, including former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi, and agreed on the need for the region to “speak with one voice”
He cautioned supporters against what he described as attempts to fragment the region for political gain

Gachagua further disclosed that the opposition intends to engage in zoning talks with other political formations, including consultations with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, to strengthen its chances in key races such as the Nairobi governorship
He also raised concerns over voter registration, urging the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the National Registration Bureau to safeguard the integrity of the identification and voter listing process
The rallies mark an escalation of Gachagua’s political mobilisation efforts in the capital as early realignments begin to shape the 2027 General Election landscape
