Tanzanian authorities have released two Kenyan police officers and three civilians who were detained at the Horo‑Horo One‑Stop Border Point (OSBP) near the Kenya–Tanzania frontier
The group, including Police Constables Patrick Kithinji and Ahmed Ali from Tononoka Police Station in Mombasa, along with Mzee Mwinyi, Sophia Menza Mbogo and Abdikadir Adan, were arrested on January 6, 2026

Initial reports indicated the officers had crossed into Tanzania in pursuit of a suspect, Omar Ali, wanted over an alleged offence of obtaining money by false pretence in Tononoka, Kenya
At the time of their detention, Tanzanian authorities confiscated the officers’ firearms two Ceska pistols each loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition and a government vehicle belonging to Kenya’s Department of Water Development
