NLP Slams Wiper Over ‘Deceptive Tactics’ in Mumbuni North By-Election

The National Liberal Party (NLP) has accused the Wiper Democratic Movement of engaging in “malicious and deceptive” actions during the Mumbuni North Ward by-election

The dispute stems from an incident in which Wiper leaders publicly presented NLP candidate Calweathers (Mutisya wa Ngai) in Wiper party attire and announced that he had withdrawn from the race

NLP Party Leader Augustus Muli swiftly dismissed the claims as false, insisting that Calweathers “remains on the ballot and has not resigned nor officially withdrawn his candidature”

Muli further accused the Kalonzo Musyoka-led party of attempting to influence the race through “backdoor political bribery and coercion,” calling the actions “dishonourable” and unworthy of a party that demands national respect

He warned that Wiper’s conduct raises concerns about its reliability in future political partnerships

“If they cannot honorably consult in a simple ward by-election, how should Kenyans trust them to honor coalition agreements in 2027?” Muli posed

NLP stated it is considering all options going forward, including continuing with its campaign or supporting another candidate who upholds democratic values

The party reaffirmed that it is a fully recognized political entity committed to clean politics and the protection of democratic institutions
