Government Vows Full Support for Chesongoch Landslide Victims

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting families affected by disasters, including those impacted by the recent landslide in Chesongoch, Elgeyo Marakwet County
During a Saturday visit to the affected families, where he was joined by First Lady Rachel Ruto and other government officials, CS Ruku stated that the government, through the State Department for Special Programmes, will continue to assist Kenyans facing natural calamities nationwide
He noted that President William Ruto had directed the Ministry to collaborate with other ministries, government agencies, and departments to develop and implement programmes that help communities adapt to disasters and the broader effects of climate change

“The people of Marakwet and others affected by disasters across the country must feel that the Government of Kenya, led by President William Ruto, cares for them,” CS Ruku said
The CS added that the Ministry is committed to ensuring affected families are resettled, regain normalcy, and rebuild their lives with dignity
The State Department will lead efforts to reconstruct homes, restore livelihoods, cover hospital expenses for victims, and provide support for funeral costs for those who lost their lives

CS Ruku also praised the First Lady for her compassion and leadership in distributing emergency relief supplies, including food and non-food items, to affected families
The victims of the tragic landslide are scheduled to be laid to rest on November 21, 2025
