Learners in Kajiado County have received a major boost in digital education following the launch of a Smart Library at Nkaimurunya Comprehensive School in Gataka

The Ksh 4.7 million facility, developed by Women in Technology and Innovation Africa (WITIA) in partnership with the Rotary Club of Karen, is equipped with computers, internet connectivity, and e-learning tools to promote digital learning and research among students

The initiative, part of WITIA’s “Smart Libraries for a Smart Nation” programme, aims to ensure equal access to technology in public schools and enhance digital literacy across underserved areas

“This Smart Library is a tangible expression of Kenya’s commitment to inclusive, digital education. Community partnerships like this ensure no child is left behind,” he said

ICT Principal Secretary John Tanui commended the project for aligning with the government’s digital transformation agenda, saying it demonstrates how collaborations can accelerate innovation in public schools

Local leaders, including Nkaimurunya MCA James Maina, lauded the development, calling it a milestone for Kajiado North

“Even schools in informal settlements can lead in innovation when partners unite for a shared purpose,” he noted

During the launch, WITIA signed agreements with the Rotary Club of Karen to strengthen collaboration in digital education and with UNICAF, which will provide scholarships for members pursuing higher education in technology and innovation
