Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has urged members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to close ranks and focus on strengthening the party amid growing internal disagreements and political uncertainty.
Speaking at a public event, Ruth emphasized the need for unity, warning that prolonged divisions could weaken ODM’s influence and undermine its preparedness for future political contests. She noted that while differing opinions are inevitable in a democratic party, leaders and members must prioritize dialogue and cohesion over factional battles.
Her remarks come at a time when ODM has been experiencing debates over its political direction, leadership succession, and its engagement with the Kenya Kwanza administration. The discussions have exposed differing viewpoints among senior party officials and grassroots supporters.
Ruth defended the importance of open conversations within the party, saying members should feel free to express their concerns without fear of being labeled disloyal. According to her, constructive criticism can help the party address emerging challenges and remain relevant to its supporters.
She stressed that ODM’s strength has always been rooted in its broad support base and its commitment to democratic ideals. To preserve that legacy, she called on leaders at all levels to embrace inclusivity and ensure that internal disputes do not overshadow the party’s broader agenda.
The legislator also encouraged party members to focus on issues affecting ordinary Kenyans, including the high cost of living, unemployment, healthcare, and economic opportunities. She argued that political organizations gain public trust when they champion solutions to citizens’ concerns rather than becoming consumed by internal power struggles.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, Ruth maintained that ODM has the capacity to remain a formidable force if its leaders and supporters work together and place the party’s long-term interests above personal ambitions.
Her appeal is expected to add momentum to ongoing discussions within ODM as the party seeks to navigate a changing political environment and position itself for future electoral contests.
