Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Ndung’u Waititu will face a hearing for his 2024 criminal case next week, as legal proceedings continue while he serves a sentence for corruption-related offences at Kamiti Maximum Prison

Waititu was charged over remarks he allegedly made on September 29, 2024, at Ruiru Stadium in Kiambu County

According to the charge sheet dated October 1, 2024, the statements, directed at hustlers, market vendors, boda boda operators, clergy, and teachers, were intended to provoke a breach of the peace and suggested violent outcomes against political figures

In his speech, Waititu appeared to criticize President William Ruto over the impeachment motion against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, reportedly stating, “If Gachagua goes home, Ruto will also go home”

The alleged conduct is said to violate Section 94(1) of the Penal Code, which prohibits offensive conduct likely to incite public unrest

Prosecutors allege that Waititu made the statements publicly with the aim of creating tension among the audience. While he has been formally charged, the court has now scheduled the hearing for next week

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) continues to pursue the matter while Waititu remains in custody
