Eight Arrested in Homa Bay Following Investigation into Rally Violence

Police in Homa Bay have detained eight men in connection with an investigation into alleged violence and obstruction of officers following a political rally in the county.

Police in Homa Bay have detained eight men in connection with an investigation into alleged violence and obstruction of officers following a political rally in the county.

The arrests include Kassim Abdi Sebo, who was being sought over an alleged assault linked to the disruption of a Linda Mwananchi rally held in August 2026.

Police records indicate that Sebo was arrested at Homa Bay Bus Stage on the night of October 8, following the execution of a warrant issued by the Homa Bay Law Courts on August 14.

Investigators are pursuing a case involving alleged assault causing actual bodily harm, an offence provided for under Section 251 of Kenya’s Penal Code.

The arrest was carried out by officers attached to Homa Bay Police Station and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Homa Bay Sub-County. The operation was overseen by County Police Commander Lawrence Koilem.

Police also took seven other individuals into custody over allegations that they interfered with officers during the operation.

The seven were identified as Victor Odhiambo Achiando, Isaac Masika Muliro, Moses Geoffrey Oyege, Njore Geoffrey, Wesley Arnold Odhiambo, Joseph Kobila and Alfred Nyagiro Aliwa.

The eight men were being held as police prepared for their court appearance, where the allegations against them would be handled through the legal process.

The arrests follow an incident at a political gathering in Homa Bay that raised questions about the safety of political events and the conduct of those involved.

The allegations against the suspects have yet to be determined in court. They remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
