Two Kenyan Police Officers Arrested in Tanzania During Cross-Border Operation

The officers, identified as Police Constables Patrick Kithinji and Ahmed Ali from the Tononoka Police Station crime office, were apprehended on January 6, 2026, in the Horohoro area of Tanzania

Two Kenyan police officers have been arrested by Tanzanian authorities after crossing into Tanzania while pursuing a suspect linked to a criminal case in Kenya

The officers, identified as Police Constables Patrick Kithinji and Ahmed Ali from the Tononoka Police Station crime office, were apprehended on January 6, 2026, in the Horohoro area of Tanzania

According to a report filed at Lungalunga Police Station in Kwale County, the two officers had crossed the border while attempting to arrest a suspect

Police reports indicate that the officers were pursuing a man identified as Omar Ali, who is alleged to have committed the offence of obtaining money by false pretence in Tononoka, Mombasa County

At the time of their arrest, Tanzanian authorities found the officers in possession of two Ceska pistols, each loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition. The firearms were confiscated upon arrest

The officers were accompanied by a driver, Abdkadir Adan Ganyure, who is attached to the Coast Development Authority. The three were travelling in a vehicle bearing registration number KDA 240P

All three individuals, along with the vehicle and the confiscated firearms, are currently being held by Tanzanian authorities as investigations and further diplomatic and legal processes continue
