Ministry of Education  Assures Credible, Smooth Start to 2025 KCSE Exams

Ogamba assured Kenyans of a smooth and credible process, emphasizing that the ministry had enhanced security and streamlined the distribution of exam materials to all centres across the country

The 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations officially began on Monday, marking a critical academic milestone for 996,078 candidates nationwide

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba presided over the national launch of the exams in Matuga Constituency, Kwale County, where he supervised the opening of the first KCSE examination container

Ogamba assured Kenyans of a smooth and credible process, emphasizing that the ministry had enhanced security and streamlined the distribution of exam materials to all centres across the country

Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok, who oversaw the start of exams at the Westlands Deputy County Commissioner’s office in Nairobi, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency and fairness throughout the exercise

“We are doing everything possible to ensure that we deliver a credible exam,” Bitok said. “We have mobilized all resources to safeguard invigilation, adjudication, and the integrity of the process”

The PS added that adequate teachers and exam personnel had been deployed to maintain proper supervision and fairness

He also noted that most of the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) papers would be marked electronically, with the process expected to take about 40 days  paving the way for transition planning to senior school

On school fees, Bitok reassured parents that there would be no significant fee increases under the new academic system, aside from minor adjustments depending on the selected learning pathway  STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts and Sports

Addressing challenges caused by heavy rains and flooding in some regions, the PS confirmed that special logistics, including the use of helicopters, had been arranged to ensure all candidates sit for their exams without disruption

Bitok also expressed sorrow over the recent loss of 14 students in a mudslide in Elgeyo Marakwet County and pledged to visit the area personally to oversee the exam delivery

The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and KJSEA results will be released in December 2025, while KCSE results are expected in January 2026. The KJSEA concludes today, and the KCSE exams will run until November 21
