Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has ordered individuals in possession of illegal firearms to surrender them to the government, as security operations against banditry intensify across several regions

Speaking at AIC Kapsowar Church in Elgeyo Marakwet County, Murkomen said a robust operation is underway along the West Pokot–Turkana border to flush out bandits and restore lasting peace. He noted that while significant progress has been made, a few pockets remain unsecured

“There are few areas that are still remaining to be fully secured. We will ensure that we have repossessed all the guns from the bandits so that the border is safe,” Murkomen said

The Interior CS reaffirmed the government’s commitment to dismantling criminal gangs that continue to harass residents in different parts of the country, stressing that peace and security remain a top priority

He also warned political leaders against shielding or collaborating with criminals, saying such actions pose a serious threat to national security

“We will deal with bandits firmly, and there is no bandit who will be protected by any politician,” he said

The government has maintained a heightened crackdown in banditry-prone regions, including parts of Narok County. In Trans Mara, President William Ruto has vowed to restore calm following violence in the Angata Barrikoi area that left scores dead and hundreds displaced

Fourteen areas in Trans Mara West and South have since been declared security-disturbed and dangerous. Although the unrest has been linked to land disputes, authorities say influential individuals are exploiting the situation to incite violence

Security agencies continue to monitor the affected regions as operations to disarm bandits and stabilize communities persist
