Police Officer Charged with Murder of 22-Year-Old Kitale Polytechnic Student in Trans Nzoia

The officer, identified as David Omondi, allegedly shot and killed Dolphine Mwangi, a student at Kitale National Polytechnic, on October 21, 2025, at Naree Trading Centre in Kiminini Sub-County, Trans Nzoia County

A police officer accused of fatally shooting a 22-year-old university student has been charged with murder before the Eldoret High Court

According to court documents, Omondi arrived at the trading centre on a motorcycle, armed with a pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition. Upon encountering a group of students, he reportedly questioned them about their presence in the area at that hour

When the students failed to respond, the officer allegedly opened fire, discharging three bullets  one of which struck Mwangi in the head

The victim was rushed to hospital by a Good Samaritan but succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment

When arraigned before Justice Reuben Nyakundi, Omondi denied the murder charge. The case will be mentioned on November 27, 2025, when the court is expected to rule on whether the accused will be granted bail
