The High Court has fined the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Secretary-General, Rev. Dr. Patrick Waihenya, and the church’s moderator, Rev. Dr. Thegu Mutahi, Ksh.150,000 and Ksh.100,000 respectively for contempt of court
In a ruling delivered on Friday, Lady Justice Stella Mutuku found that the two senior clerics willfully disobeyed court orders that barred the installation of David Nderitu Ndumo as the PCEA Honorary Treasurer

Justice Mutuku said the respondents were fully aware of an injunction issued on April 8, 2024, but nonetheless proceeded to participate in Ndumo’s installation while the orders were still in force
“While fully aware of the court order issued on April 8, 2024, the respondents proceeded to participate in the installation, thereby deliberately breaching the order of this court,” the judge stated
The court directed the two church leaders to pay the fines, warning that failure to comply would attract further legal consequences
Justice Mutuku further faulted the clerics for openly defying the law, emphasizing that no individual or institution is above the authority of the court and that court orders must be obeyed regardless of position or status
