A total of 1,180 candidates who sat the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams will not receive their results after the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) cancelled them for engaging in examination irregularities
Education Cabinet Secretary Migos Ogamba, speaking during the release of the 2025 KCSE results at AIC Chebisas High School in Eldoret, said the cancellations followed the conclusion of investigations that began in November 2025
He defended the move, citing the KNEC (Handling of Examination Irregularities) Rules of 2015, Legal Notice No. 132, which grants the Council the authority to suspend or withhold results in cases of exam malpractices

“I wish to reiterate our stand on the integrity of examinations. In November last year, we indicated that there were reported cases under investigation and that action would be taken upon conclusion of the investigation,” CS Ogamba said
“At the conclusion of the KCSE examination, 1,180 candidates were found to have been involved in examination irregularities

Consequently, and in line with the applicable law and regulations, their examination results have been cancelled”
By comparison, 840 candidates had their results cancelled in the 2024 KCSE exams, while 2,829 results were withheld at the time
The 2025 figure represents a 40% increase, raising concerns over a growing trend of exam misconduct among candidates
