Body of Unidentified Man Found in Nyamindi River, Kirinyaga
Gathigiriri Assistant Chief Samuel Waithaka confirmed the incident, noting that the body had visible injuries, which may have been caused by rocks in the river
The body of an unidentified man was recovered on Thursday evening from the Nyamindi River in Gathigiriri Sub-location, Kirinyaga County
According to residents, the body was discovered around 6:50 p.m. by women fetching water, who were alerted by two boys herding livestock nearby
“We were alerted by the boys, and after confirming what we saw, we raised an alarm. Villagers immediately rushed to the scene,” said resident Susan Muthoni

“As police continue with investigations, we are treating the matter as a possible drowning,” Waithaka said
Residents from nearby villages, including Kimbimbi, Matandara, Mahigaini, and Gathigiriri, have raised concerns about the rising water levels in the Nyamindi River following heavy rains in the Mt. Kenya region

Some locals suspect the man may have drowned at Karoti in Kimbimbi and been carried downstream for over 10 kilometers by strong river currents
The body was moved to the Kerugoya County Referral Hospital mortuary for identification and postmortem examination
