Mystery as Guns and Ammunition Vanish from Thika Police Post Without Forced Entry

Police in Thika have launched investigations after firearms and ammunition were mysteriously stolen from Maguguni Patrol Base early Tuesday morning

According to a police report, the incident was discovered by Corporal Simon Cheboi, the officer on duty at the night report office, who heard dogs barking near the patrol base compound and the neighboring A.I.P.C.A Church around 4 a.m. on October 29, 2025

Upon returning to the report office, Cheboi noticed that one of the iron sheets covering the armoury had been removed. He also found the padlock to the armoury door broken, and inside, a steel box used to store weapons had been opened  several firearms and rounds of ammunition were missing

Among the stolen weapons were an AK-47 rifle with two fully loaded magazines containing 60 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and a G3 rifle with one fully loaded magazine of 20 rounds, two empty magazines, and an additional 96 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition

Senior officers, including the Sub-County Police Commander and the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer for Thika East, visited the scene, which was later documented by Crime Scene Investigators from Thika West

However, investigators were puzzled to find no signs of forced entry  both armoury padlocks were intact, raising questions about how the weapons were accessed and removed

“A search party was deployed in a bid to recover the stolen arms and ammunition. Preliminary investigations revealed there was no breaking and the two armoury padlocks were intact and not broken,” the police report stated

Corporal Cheboi has since been placed in custody to assist with ongoing investigations as authorities intensify efforts to recover the stolen firearms
