Popular gospel musician Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, widely known as Betty Bayo, has died. The artist passed away on Monday, November 10, following a prolonged battle with cancer

Her former partner, Pastor Victor Mwangi Kanyari, with whom she had two children, confirmed her passing as his team headed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where Bayo had been receiving treatment

In an emotional social media post, Kanyari wrote:
“It hurts in ways I can’t explain. You left before I could say everything I needed to. I still see you in every laugh our children give, in every little habit that reminds me of you. We had our moments, but through it all, you were family. I’ll carry your memory, your love, and your spirit forever. Rest easy… you’ll always be missed”

Several industry figures, including Bishop Benson Gathungu Kamau, have expressed their grief online. Bishop Kamau revealed that Bayo had been battling advanced-stage blood cancer (leukaemia)

“Living a life of praising God and growing in business, the mother of two remained a joyful artist until her diagnosis. She leaves a legacy of immense contribution to gospel music, friendship, and a spirit that maximized its potential. My condolences to her family, friends, and the music industry. Rest in peace, Betty Bayo,” he wrote
