Three people were shot and injured on Wednesday in Nairobi’s Huruma area following day-long tensions between police officers and residents protesting the fatal shooting of a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student

The unrest erupted as youth in the area attempted to barricade Outer Ring Road to demand justice for 21-year-old Cheryl Adhiambo, who was allegedly shot dead by police on Saturday evening

According to reports, chaos broke out when demonstrators clashed with officers deployed to contain the protest. During the confrontation, a female police officer is said to have discharged her firearm, injuring three individuals. The victims sustained gunshot wounds to the thighs and lower limbs

Police later managed to restore calm in the area. The injured were rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where they are receiving treatment

The shooting of Adhiambo has sparked outrage among residents, who have accused law enforcement of excessive force and are calling for accountability over the incident

Authorities had not issued an official statement on the matter by the time of publication
