GULU, Oct 22 – At least sixty-three people have been killed in a horrific road accident involving multiple vehicles on the Kampala–Gulu Highway, Ugandan police confirmed on Wednesday.
According to the Uganda Police Force, the crash occurred at around 00:15 local time (21:15 GMT) when two buses traveling in opposite directions collided head-on while attempting to overtake a lorry and a car.
Police reported that one of the buses swerved in an attempt to avoid impact, triggering a “head-on and side collision” that resulted in a chain reaction as other vehicles lost control and overturned.

In addition to the fatalities, several passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospitals in Kiryandongo for treatment.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
Following the tragedy, police urged motorists to exercise extreme caution and avoid dangerous overtaking, noting that reckless driving remains one of the leading causes of road crashes in Uganda.
