The Kerugoya High Court has extended conservatory orders halting the privatisation of Mwea Rice Mills (MRM) until a petition filed by two rice farmers is heard and determined
Justice Edward Muriithi directed that the petitioners farmers Pius Njogu and John Munene physically serve the Attorney General, the Mwea Rice Growers Cooperative Society Ltd (MRGM), and Mwea Rice Mills Limited with court papers

Njogu and Munene, represented by lawyer Ruth Gacungi, moved to court following President William Ruto’s assent to nine key bills on October 15, 2025, among them the Privatisation Act 2025, which proposes the privatisation of MRM and other state-owned enterprises

“For the avoidance of doubt, the orders herein granted relate only to the privatisation of Mwea Rice Mills Limited and not generally against the Privatisation Act 2025,” the court clarified
Mwea rice farmers who attended the Kerugoya court session welcomed the extension, saying it safeguards their economic interests as stakeholders in the milling company
The case will be mentioned on November 17, 2025
