Raila Odinga’s 2007 ‘Hammer’ to Be Restored and Displayed at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi Museum

Plans are underway to preserve one of the most iconic symbols of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s 2007 presidential campaign  his “Hammer” Hummer vehicle

Raila Odinga Junior announced that the vehicle will be restored and permanently displayed at the family museum in Bondo, reigniting memories of the car’s pivotal role during the cross-country rallies that defined Kenya’s political landscape in 2007

Photos of the car recently circulating on X (formerly Twitter)  showing it parked and covered  sparked public curiosity and nostalgia among supporters

Speaking on Monday, December 8, Raila Junior clarified that the car had not been abandoned but was being prepared to enter a new chapter as a historical artifact

“My intention is to restore and take it to the museum at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi,” he said

The move forms part of a broader effort by the Odinga family to memorialize Raila’s influential political journey

Kang’o Ka Jaramogi Museum, home to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Museum, has become a national site for reflection on the Odinga family’s legacy in Kenyan politics

Longtime aide Silas Jakakimba described the restoration as a timely and historically significant decision, noting that the Hummer was chosen for its unique presence and capability to traverse diverse terrains during rallies

“This car, the famous 2007 campaign mobility identity for HE Raila Odinga, is being taken to Jaramogi Museum in Bondo. What a timely & befitting decision!” he said

The Hammer’s legacy remains tied to Raila’s reform agenda at the time and continues to evoke powerful memories among his supporters, reinforcing its place in Kenya’s political folklore
