Opposition Leaders Mount Fierce Offensive in Kisii, Warn Against Poll Interference

The leaders held rallies in Chepilat, Ikonge, and Ekerenyo, where they sharply criticized President William Ruto’s administration and affirmed their commitment to front a single presidential candidate in 2027

The opposition coalition has intensified its political offensive in the Gusii region, accusing allies of the Kenya Kwanza administration of plotting to influence upcoming by-elections in their favour

Led by Jubilee Party Deputy Leader Dr. Fred Matiang’i, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, and NARC Kenya leader Martha Karua, the team on Sunday launched a vigorous campaign across Nyamira County to rally support for Jeremiah Ongaro, the UPA candidate in the Ekerenyo by-election

Karua declared that the opposition was united and moving “in one direction,” while Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gesairo warned state operatives against using money or intimidation to sway the by-election

The leaders accused President Ruto of failing to rein in corruption, saying the country could not progress economically while public funds continued to be misappropriated. They vowed to unseat him in the next general election

Governor Natembeya reiterated that the coalition’s mission was to “send Ruto home,” while Nyamira Senator Okongo Omogeni took issue with the president’s recent address to Parliament, describing it as misleading on key national issues

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale dismissed claims that the current administration could transform Kenya into a “Singapore,” citing entrenched corruption as a major stumbling block

Dr. Matiang’i warned against politicizing security agencies, urging top officials not to allow themselves to be used as political weapons

Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka also voiced concern over threats targeting leaders opposed to the president, saying such intimidation risked destabilizing the nation

The opposition further criticized Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, accusing them of sponsoring disruptions at their rallies and warning that a fierce contest awaited them in Western Kenya
