Mumbuni North By-Election Campaign Marred by Alleged Wiper Violence, Mwengi Mutuse Reports
Mutuse alleged that operatives linked to the Wiper Patriotic Front vandalised his vehicle, stole public address equipment, and were captured on video committing the act
Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse’s campaign for Harrison Wambua Mutuku in the Mumbuni North by-election faced a violent disruption on Sunday, November 23
Mutuse alleged that operatives linked to the Wiper Patriotic Front vandalised his vehicle, stole public address equipment, and were captured on video committing the act
The incident occurred near Mung’ala AIC, where his campaign procession was attacked

“Earlier today, known Wiper operatives stoned our sound vehicle, vandalised it, and stole part of our public address equipment
The offenders are known, witnessed in the act, and the matter has been reported at Machakos Police Station,” Mutuse said
He called for calm among supporters, warning that such acts violate Section 11 of the Election Offences Act and undermine the integrity of the electoral process
Mutuse also alleged that Wiper operatives were planning further intimidation of women voters ahead of the mini-poll

Mutuse urged residents of Mumbuni North to support MCC’s Harrison Wambua Mutuku, emphasizing his candidate’s peaceful stance. Mutuku faces stiff competition from Wiper Patriotic Front candidate Anthony Kisoi, who has the backing of Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti
The seat became vacant following the 2023 death of Gideon Kavuu. Internal tensions within Kenya Kwanza emerged as MCC and UDA fielded rival candidates, with UDA selecting businessman Misi Mutua, while MCC backed Mutuku
Mutuse concluded by urging residents to reject violence and vote for peace, stating, “The people will vote for MCC’s Mutuku because he is peaceful and reject the candidate whose party resorts to violence”
