Kiambati wa Njora, regarded as the last surviving member of the 12 Mau Mau generals who led the armed struggle against British colonial rule, has died at the age of 106
Family members said Kiambati passed away on Tuesday at his home in Ngorika, Ol Kalou, in Nyandarua County. His son, Maina Kiambati, confirmed that he died of old age
The family added that his body has been moved to Umash Funeral Home in Nakuru ahead of burial arrangements

Kiambati was among the prominent Mau Mau commanders whose operations were largely based in Nyandarua during Kenya’s fight for independence. His role in the liberation struggle earned him recognition as one of the key figures in the resistance against colonial rule
In his later years, Kiambati spoke openly about the challenges faced by Mau Mau veterans, many of whom live in poverty. He consistently called for greater recognition, support, and dignity for those who sacrificed for Kenya’s freedom
