10 People from Wedding Die in Homa Bay Night Crash

Ten people, including six women and four men, lost their lives in a horrific road accident near Chabera Trading Center in Rachuonyo East, Homa Bay County on Sunday night. Six others sustained serious injuries
The tragedy occurred around 8 pm when a Nissan matatu carrying church members from Nyamira County collided head-on with a lorry traveling from Oyugis toward Katito
The matatu passengers were returning from a wedding in Kakamega County
According to Dennis Abong’o, Assistant Chief of Kodumo East Sub-location, the lorry driver lost control and veered into the matatu’s lane, causing the fatal collision
Rachuonyo East Sub-county Police Commander Laban Omol confirmed the lorry driver fled the scene

The injured were rushed to Rachuonyo South Sub-county Hospital in Oyugis Town, while the deceased were taken to the hospital mortuary
Police have urged motorists to exercise caution, especially during the festive season
The matatu and lorry involved in the crash were towed to Othoro Police Station as investigations continue
