Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma was violently attacked at Agoro Sare Primary School during the Kasipul by-election on Thursday, November 27
The incident left the legislator injured, while his bodyguard’s firearm was reportedly stolen by the attackers
The confrontation occurred in the presence of MP candidate Philip Aroko, who was captured on video attempting to shield Kaluma before the crowd overpowered both men. Police officers were also present at the scene
Kaluma, who was observing the polls on behalf of the ODM candidate, later dismissed claims that he had been protected during the chaos
He directly accused Aroko of leading the assault and ordering his supporters to seize the bodyguard’s gun
“I have been attacked by Aroko and his team. He instructed his people to deal with me immediately
They took my security’s gun and handed it to him before leaving,” Kaluma said, urging voters to remain peaceful despite the provocation

Kaluma added that retaliating would have resulted in fatalities and called on residents not to fall for attempts to intimidate them
Aroko, along with ODM’s Boyd Were, are the leading contenders in the hotly contested race that has attracted 10 candidates
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the stolen firearm or the attack
