KERICHO MASSACRE
Initial reports had suggested that only about 14 bodies were buried at the cemetery. However, during the excavation process, investigators uncovered a much larger number of remains, bringing the total to 33 bodies. Among them were 25 children and eight adults, a finding that has alarmed both officials and residents in the area.

A shocking discovery has emerged in Kericho County after investigators exhumed 33 bodies from a suspected mass grave at Makaburini Cemetery, raising serious questions about how the remains ended up buried at the site. Authorities confirmed that the exhumation exercise was carried out by a multi-agency team following a court order obtained by homicide detectives.

Government pathologists and detectives supervised the exercise as forensic experts began documenting the remains to establish the identities of the victims and the circumstances surrounding their burial. Reports indicate that some of the bodies may have been transferred from a hospital morgue after remaining unclaimed for a long period.
Police have already taken two suspects into custody, including a public health official linked to the hospital involved and the cemetery caretaker. A court granted investigators time to detain them as authorities continue probing whether proper procedures were followed in disposing of the bodies.
The discovery was first reported by grave diggers who noticed unusual activity and alerted authorities, prompting detectives to move to the site and launch investigations. The case has since sparked public concern and calls for transparency as Kenyans await a detailed explanation from officials about the mysterious mass burial.
