Bondo Blogger Arrested Over Alleged Defamation of MCA

The arrest has stirred mixed reactions among residents of Yimbo East. A group led by Erick Oyaro visited the Bondo Police Station, urging the MCA to consider an out-of-court settlement, citing Ohindo’s previous role as Otiato’s personal assistant

A popular Bondo-based blogger, Boniface Ohindo widely known by his online alias “Super B”  has been arrested following allegations of defaming Yimbo East Ward MCA, Francis Otiato

Ohindo was apprehended at his home by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after the MCA filed a complaint accusing him of spreading misinformation and making false claims on social media about development projects in the area

Confirming the arrest, Bondo DCIO Reuben Onchoka said the blogger is set to appear in court on Monday to face charges of cyber harassment and misuse of digital platforms

The arrest has stirred mixed reactions among residents of Yimbo East. A group led by Erick Oyaro visited the Bondo Police Station, urging the MCA to consider an out-of-court settlement, citing Ohindo’s previous role as Otiato’s personal assistant

Another resident, Margaret Akinyi, criticized the move, saying it discourages citizens from questioning local leaders about development matters

She appealed to the MCA to drop the case in the interest of peace and cooperation between leaders and residents

In his defense, Otiato said he had previously warned Ohindo to stop posting defamatory content but the blogger ignored multiple requests, forcing him to seek legal redress

However, the MCA hinted he may withdraw the case if Ohindo apologizes publicly and shows genuine remorse. Failing that, Otiato said he would proceed with both criminal and civil actions against him
