Kenya Met Forecasts Continued Nationwide Rains in November, Warns of Flood and Health Risks

KMD urged caution in regions with already saturated soils, particularly the Highlands West and the Lake Basin, and advised Kenyans to avoid walking or driving through flooded areas or taking shelter under trees during storms

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has projected that the ongoing nationwide rains will persist through November, with heavy downpours expected across parts of the Rift Valley and western Kenya.

In its November 2025 Climate Outlook, KMD said near to above-average rainfall is likely over the Lake Victoria Basin, Highlands West of the Rift Valley, and Central and South Rift Valley. Meanwhile, areas east of the Rift Valley including Nairobi along with the Southeastern lowlands, Coast, and much of the Northeast, are expected to experience near to below-average rainfal

“Rainfall will be unevenly distributed, with intermittent dry spells in several parts of the country,” the agency noted, adding that temperatures will remain warmer than usual nationwide

The department also warned of potential flooding in the west and prolonged dry spells in the east

The agency also highlighted possible health impacts, including an increase in vector-borne diseases such as malaria due to stagnant water and higher incidences of respiratory infections in dry, dusty regions

Residents of Eastern and Coastal Kenya were encouraged to harvest and store rainwater and adopt efficient water-use practices as rainfall in those regions is expected to remain depressed
