Kenya Among Countries to Finalise the Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere Acceleration Plan 2026–2028
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale announced this milestone on his official social media account, emphasising Kenya’s commitment to reducing preventable deaths among mothers and infants. “We are proud to be among the countries that have finalised the Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (EWENE) Acceleration Plan 2026–2028,” he stated.

Kenya has been recognised as one of the countries that have finalised the Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (EWENE) Acceleration Plan for 2026–2028, a global roadmap aimed at drastically improving maternal and newborn health outcomes across the world.
The EWENE plan — a global initiative aligned with Sustainable Development Goal targets — provides a strategic framework for countries to reduce maternal mortality and neonatal deaths by ensuring universal access to essential health services for women and newborns, regardless of their location or socio‑economic status.
Under the plan, countries are expected to accelerate health system improvements, expand quality care in pregnancy and childbirth, and strengthen community‑level health services. Kenya’s accession to this plan signals accelerated action towards ensuring that every pregnancy is safe, every birth is attended by skilled care, and every newborn has the best possible start to life.

Health CS Duale also highlighted the critical role of county governments in adapting the plan to local contexts, noting that counties have already begun developing contextual strategies to ensure effective implementation at grassroots levelThe successful finalisation of the EWENE plan places Kenya among a growing number of nations shifting from commitments on paper to tangible action on the ground — reinforcing political will, community engagement, and accountability across the health sector.
Kenya’s participation in the EWENE initiative coincides with broader efforts to strengthen maternal and newborn health services, including digital health tracking and enhanced emergency care systems that support real‑time monitoring of births and outcomes.
As the 2026–2028 plan begins implementation, Kenya joins global partners in a concerted push to meet ambitious health targets — working to ensure that no woman dies from preventable causes and every newborn survives the critical first days of life.
