Businessman Francis Nganga has narrated the final days of his wife, Lucy Wambui, following a cosmetic surgical procedure at Body by Design, raising fresh questions about patient safety and regulation in the aesthetic medicine industry
According to Nganga, Lucy sought abdominal fat reduction services after coming across an online advertisement that promised drastic weight loss nfrom 100 kilograms to between 50 and 60 kilograms
He said she booked an appointment at the facility for October 16, 2024, hopeful that the procedure would help her achieve her desired body goals

Nganga recounted that shortly after undergoing the procedure, Lucy’s health began to deteriorate. He said she complained of severe pain and complications that required urgent medical attention. Despite efforts to stabilise her condition, her situation worsened in the days that followed
“She trusted the promises that were made online and believed she was in safe hands,” Nganga said, describing the period as emotionally draining for the family as they watched her condition decline

Lucy Wambui later succumbed to the complications, leaving her family devastated and searching for answers. Nganga has since called for thorough investigations into the circumstances surrounding his wife’s death, urging authorities to scrutinise cosmetic surgery clinics and the claims they make to prospective clients
The case has sparked renewed public debate on the safety of cosmetic procedures, the credibility of online medical advertising, and the need for stricter oversight to protect patients seeking aesthetic treatments in Kenya
