Government Launches Fundraiser for Elgeyo Marakwet Landslide Victims as Death Toll Rises to 39

Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura confirmed on Tuesday that the death toll has risen to 39, with nine people still missing and six others receiving treatment

The government has announced a national fundraiser to support families affected by the devastating landslide that struck Elgeyo Marakwet on November 1, 2025

“Search, rescue, and recovery operations are ongoing, and the government remains committed to ensuring that every missing person is accounted for and every affected family receives adequate support,” Mwaura stated

He called on leaders, organizations, institutions, and Kenyans of goodwill to stand with the victims, emphasizing that this tragedy calls for “unity, empathy, and collective responsibility”

Mwaura further announced that a harambee will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at AIC Milimani Church in Nairobi from 4:00 p.m. The event aims to raise funds for resettlement, medical care, and other essential needs of the affected families

“The government reiterates its unwavering commitment to ensuring that all affected households receive humanitarian assistance and long-term support,” he added, noting that efforts are underway to restore livelihoods and strengthen community resilience in the disaster-hit region

Funeral ceremonies for the victims will take place on various dates throughout November
