Government Announces Recruitment of 20,000 Junior Secondary Teachers

On Tuesday, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) announced plans to hire an additional 20,000 Junior Secondary Teachers on an internship basis for a period of 12 months. The announcement was published in the daily newspapers on October 29.

Interested candidates are encouraged to apply through the TSC website by midnight on November 4.

The new teachers will play a crucial role in implementing the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in regular schools, as well as in Special Needs Education (SNE) schools.

To be eligible, applicants must be Kenyan citizens with a minimum grade of C+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and in the two teaching subjects they wish to specialize in. Additionally, they must be registered with the TSC.

The TSC stated, “Qualified and trained teachers with Technical Learning Areas/Subjects and TSC Registration Numbers are highly encouraged to apply.”

The commission also noted that only online applications will be accepted, and manual applications will not be considered. Successful applicants may be assigned to teach in schools within their application areas or any other region with available vacancies.

Furthermore, the TSC will only consider applicants who have no prior teaching record with the commission or any disciplinary issues.

Interns will receive a monthly stipend of Ksh 20,000, subject to applicable government deductions.

Applicants must submit copies of their TSC Certificate, national identity card, National Council for Persons with Disabilities card (for differently-abled applicants), KRA PIN, and two passport-sized photos.
