The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened applications for Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) programmes, with revised entry requirements for the Certificate in Health Insurance Management course
In a statement issued on Wednesday, KUCCPS announced that eligible Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) holders can apply through the KUCCPS portal until January 27, 2026
The January application window targets candidates who sat their KCSE examinations in 2024 or earlier. Students who sat KCSE in 2025 will be considered for the September 2026 intake, as their examination results are yet to be released

KUCCPS also revealed that KMTC has lowered the minimum requirement in Biology or Biological Sciences for the Certificate in Health Insurance Management programme from D+ to D (plain)
The move is aimed at supporting the implementation of the government’s Taifa Care programme
According to KUCCPS, graduates of the course are expected to enjoy improved employment prospects due to the growing demand for automation in health services and the rollout of the Social Health Insurance framework
“The Certificate in Health Insurance Management programme is designed to equip health workers with skills needed to support the implementation of Social Health Insurance, a key component of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda,” KUCCPS said

The two-year course is offered at KMTC campuses in Bondo, Chwele, Mombasa, Nairobi, Nakuru, Nyamache, Nyeri, Rachuonyo, Rera and Webuye
KUCCPS assured that the revision of entry requirements will not compromise the quality of training, noting that professional bodies continue to ensure KMTC meets the required training standards
Successful applicants will join KMTC in the March 2026 intake, where a total of 21,774 slots are available across 36 diploma and certificate programmes offered in 98 campuses nationwide
The ongoing application exercise is part of the 2026 phased university and college placement process. KCSE certificate holders have been urged to log into the KUCCPS portal to select available KMTC diploma and certificate programmes, subject to meeting the minimum requirements
