Unqualified ‘Lawyer’ Arrested in Kisii After Representing Fake Advocates in Court

The three suspects, who had allegedly been offering legal services from cybercafes in Kisii town, were released on a Ksh.50,000 bond each, with the case scheduled for mention on November 13, 2025

The Kisii Law Courts were on Thursday, October 30, 2025, thrown into disarray after an unqualified lawyer was arrested while representing three suspects accused of posing as advocates

During a plea hearing, one of the accused was being represented by Peter Ngeri Ouma, who was later discovered to lack a valid Certificate of Practice. When questioned by the prosecution, Ouma admitted that he had applied for the certificate but had not yet been approved to practice law

Senior Principal Magistrate Omwansa Benard immediately ordered police officers to escort Ouma out of the courtroom and have him record a statement for impersonating a lawyer

“You can take care of him as he records a statement and investigations follow. I other words, you don’t have the audience without the certificate,” ruled the Magistrate

Officials from the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Kisii Branch vowed to intensify the ongoing crackdown on fake lawyers, warning that the racket extends beyond cybercafes
