President William Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja on Wednesday conducted an inspection tour of key development projects across Nairobi, reaffirming their commitment to accelerate infrastructure expansion and improve service delivery in the capital
The visit follows the signing of a KSh80 billion cooperation agreement between the National Government and the Nairobi City County Government aimed at fast-tracking urban transformation initiatives
The leaders began their tour at the Kabete Affordable Housing project under the national Affordable Housing Programme, where they pledged to strengthen collaboration to modernise the city, create employment opportunities for youth, and enhance access to essential services

Among the projects inspected were 16 newly constructed classrooms at Kangemi Primary School and additional classroom blocks at Kihumbuini Primary School, both delivered through the national–county partnership. They also visited the newly constructed Kangemi Overpass, engaging residents and emphasizing their focus on tangible, people-centred development
President Ruto said the partnership is anchored on delivering measurable outcomes that will elevate Nairobi to global standards through targeted investments in roads, street lighting, housing, and education infrastructure
“This is the capital city; we must raise it to the standards of a global city. We are addressing lighting, roads, affordable housing, and classrooms. As promised, today you can see the results. We shall be judged not by what we say, but by what we deliver,” he said
The Head of State described the KSh80 billion pact as a bold intervention designed to resolve long-standing urban challenges, including inadequate water supply, unreliable connectivity, and poor road networks

“This partnership will restore order, improve living standards and position Nairobi as a clean, functional, and investment-ready capital city that reflects the ambition of our nation,” Ruto added
Governor Sakaja welcomed the funding boost, terming it transformative and necessary to support Nairobi’s distinct role as Kenya’s political and economic hub
“This partnership is service-delivery oriented. The additional Sh80 billion affirms that Nairobi requires a different level of support, not just as a county, but as the face of our nation,” Sakaja said
The two leaders later visited additional project sites and assured residents that continued collaboration between the national and county governments would drive inclusive growth and deliver lasting urban transformation
