Nelson Havi urges Edwin sifuna to take charge of ODM without delay

Havi described Sifuna as the late Raila Odinga’s natural successor, urging him not to hesitate in stepping into the role left vacant by the party’s founding leader.

Lawyer Nelson Havi has advised Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to take over the leadership of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), arguing that the party’s future depends on him

Havi described Sifuna as the late Raila Odinga’s natural successor, urging him not to hesitate in stepping into the role left vacant by the party’s founding leader

Sifuna, who has served as ODM’s Secretary General for the past eight years, enjoyed Raila’s full support and confidence throughout his tenure

With Raila’s passing earlier this month, Havi believes the time has come for Sifuna to take charge.

Speaking during a televised interview, Havi emphasized that transitions in leadership should be swift and decisive

“Ascension to high office does not require hesitation. When the king dies, even in combat or illness, the heir apparent must prepare for coronation quickly,” said Havi.
“So yes, mourn Raila Amolo Odinga, but do not hesitate to take over the leadership of ODM.”

Havi noted that Raila had deliberately built ODM into a national party and surrounded himself with young leaders like Sifuna to ensure its longevity

He cautioned that if the party fails to act quickly, it risks losing its national stature and becoming confined to Raila’s home region

                                                                                                                                                                                   .

“They should have already gathered at Chungwa House to organize a smooth transition. Otherwise, ODM risks disintegration and may end up being a regional party based only in Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, and Migori,” he warned.

Havi added that Raila had groomed youthful leaders capable of taking ODM forward, saying it was time they fulfilled that vision.

Currently, ODM is under the interim leadership of Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, who was appointed by the National Executive Committee (NEC) on October 16 — a day after Raila’s death. The party’s substantive leader is expected to be chosen during the upcoming National Governing Council (NGC) meeting.
