The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed that Makadara-based court prosecutor Samuel Mugo Kiarie face criminal charges over alleged bribery
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) confirmed on Wednesday that it reviewed an inquiry file forwarded by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) concerning Kiarie. The DPP found the evidence sufficient to sustain charges

“Upon an independent evaluation of the evidence presented, the DPP has established that there is sufficient and credible evidence to sustain criminal charges against Mr. Kiarie,” the ODPP said in a statement
Kiarie is set to face three counts of receiving a bribe under Section 6(1) read together with Section 18 of the Bribery Act. The DPP has directed that he be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction

The prosecution of a state prosecutor is seen as a major step toward restoring public confidence in Kenya’s criminal justice system. The Makadara Law Courts, where Kiarie is stationed, handle a high volume of criminal cases, making integrity among officers critical to the administration of justice
“No individual, regardless of office, rank or position, is above the law. The ODPP will not hesitate to take decisive action against any officer who undermines the integrity of the Criminal Justice System,” the office emphasized
