The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched investigations into the fatal shooting of Shukri Ibrahim, who was allegedly killed by a police officer during a confrontation following a road accident in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Embakasi, Nairobi County
In a statement issued to newsrooms, IPOA said the incident occurred on January 11, 2026, when Ibrahim was in the company of Wycliff Nyakwama and Festus Mutinda
The trio was en route to deliver a motor vehicle to a client in Imara Daima when they were involved in a traffic accident with a matatu

Following the collision, a confrontation reportedly broke out between the drivers of the two vehicles. IPOA noted that after the matatu driver called for reinforcement from colleagues, the three men drove away from the scene
The statement further indicated that the trio later parked near MCC School and began walking back to the scene of the accident when they were intercepted by two police officers identified as Godwin Mjomba and Patrick Mutunga Titus
The officers allegedly ordered them to lie down

“During the encounter, Sergeant Godwin Mjomba allegedly discharged his firearm, fatally injuring Mr Shukri Ibrahim,” IPOA said. Ibrahim sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene
IPOA oversaw the post-mortem examination conducted on the same day, which confirmed that the deceased died from a single penetrating gunshot wound to the head. Ibrahim was later buried at the Lang’ata Muslim Cemetery
The two officers were arrested and arraigned before the Milimani Law Courts on Monday
The court granted IPOA’s request for custodial orders, directing that the suspects be detained for 14 days to allow investigators to complete their probe into the incident
