The Kenyan government has cleared all outstanding payments to road contractors, totaling Ksh.177 billion, resolving bills that have been pending since 2020
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki confirmed that the clearance of these funds will allow stalled road construction projects across the country to resume
Speaking at his official residence in Karen, Nairobi, where he received a status update on major roads, bridges, and infrastructure projects from the Ministry of Roads and Transport, DP Kindiki said the delayed payments had previously halted the development of 6,000 kilometers of roads

“The government has cleared the entire amount of pending bills owed to contractors, a total of Ksh.177 billion, which remained unpaid since 2020, leading to the stalling of road construction across Kenya,” he stated
The Deputy President added that the government is working to ensure that contractors are paid promptly moving forward, with adequate resources now mobilized to support the completion of ongoing projects
