Speaking after the examinations, pathologist Njoroge said that most of the children died due to complications related to prematurity, while a smaller number had suffered head injuries.

Investigations into the disturbing discovery of a mass grave in Kericho County have taken a significant step forward after the first phase of post-mortem examinations revealed the causes of death for several children recovered from the site.

Speaking after the examinations, pathologist Njoroge said that most of the children died due to complications related to prematurity, while a smaller number had suffered head injuries.

“Prematurity as a cause of death, we found in 10, and then some sort of head injuries we found in four,” Njoroge explained.

The first phase of the post-mortem exercise focused on the remains of 25 children recovered from the mass grave. Authorities indicated that the examinations are part of a broader investigation aimed at establishing the circumstances under which the victims died and how they ended up buried at the site.

Officials also confirmed that autopsies on the remaining eight adult bodies recovered during the exhumation are scheduled to take place on Friday. Investigators hope the results will provide additional clues as detectives continue piecing together the events surrounding the grim discovery.

The shocking find has sparked concern among residents and drawn national attention, with law enforcement agencies and forensic experts working closely to determine whether any criminal activity was involved.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm as the investigations continue, emphasizing that more details will emerge once the remaining post-mortem examinations are completed and forensic analysis is finalized.
